Independent Learning

On March 13th, the Center for Language Education hosted a workshop titled Introducing the SUSTech Corpus: Another Academic Companion in the Age of AI. Dr. Luo Jinru introduced the use of this corpus to facilitate independent language learning. About 20 students and faculty members attended the workshop. 

SUSTech Corpus is a collection of 49 top-tier international journals and 11,320 journal articles in 19 disciplines, designed to facilitate English learning and academic writing in STEM fields. With this online corpus, users can enhance their understanding of academic English in STEM, improve their writing skills, develop their vocabulary and grammar knowledge, and even cross-check the AI-generated content. Dr Luo tutored students on how to use the six functions of this corpus step by step and demonstrated how this corpus could serve as a complementary resource to AI in learning academic English. The workshop has been well received. Students even remained after the workshop to ask questions to learn more about this corpus.
