Participants meet twice monthly to discuss selected films. Two
movie-crazy CLE faculty, Rongrong Dong and Al Evans, are the co-founders
and co-leaders. Working together,
they guide discussions for participants, making it easy to talk
about films in English. Moviemaking techniques and film criticism issues
are frequently included.
Entering its third semester in Fall 2020, the CLE Movie Club has watched films in three languages from a variety of genres, and an occasional guest speaker is invited. Discussions frequently spill over into our social media group. This fall, the CLE Movie Club will collaborate with our CLE courses in Chinese to create a cross-language event for our participants and international SUSTech students currently living in other countries.
The CLE Movie Club met on April 19th to discuss the film and its topics of raising and educating gifted children. Throughout one hour of discussion, the participants addressed nature versus nurture, as well as cultural differences between China and the USA and other issues.
The CLE Movie Club held its 36th meeting to discuss “The Farewell.”
The CLE Movie Club had a return to its early days. To accommodate the constraints of the pandemic, the club moved to a familiar format, meeting online as it did its very beginning in 2020.
