On March 14th, the CLE Language Corner saw its largest attendance ever. The event welcomed over 60 participants in 6 different languages. There was also a new language group—Cantonese! The inaugural Cantonese group had over 20 participants. An excellent start!
The CLE Language Corner is meeting regularly in the spring semester of 2025. Enjoying its 3rd year, the event celebrates our love of languages and provides the campus an opportunity to practice conversation, too. According to Al Evans, the CLE’s coordinator for the activity, “Language Corner is a a wonderful example of the CLE’s support of internationalization on campus.”
Upon arrival, participants will select a language to practice. Our featured languages this semester include English, Beginning Chinese, Spanish, French, Japanese, and a new group for this semester-- Cantonese!
The “Language Leaders” for each group prepare to guide participants in conversation. Themes and topics for discussion are frequently provided to help get things started. Several CLE faculty are among the leaders, including Miguel Martinez (French), Paul Madden (Spanish), and Shen Wei (Beginning Chinese).
The event meets roughly every two weeks during the semester, with a break during the midterm period. You can easily find the group on its Friday evenings between 5:30 and 6:30. Language Corner meets at the plaza in front of the School of Science.
Start your weekend off with a great conversation. Come join us!
