2024-04-03

On April 3rd, the Center for Language Education (CLE) at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, in collaboration with SUSTech Language Commission, hosted an engaging event  "Paint Kites & Learn Chinese." The event welcomed international faculty and students at SUSTech, offering them an opportunity to explore Chinese culture while expressing their creativity.

During the event, Dr. Zhu Wenhui provided insights into the upcoming Chinese Qingming Festival—a celebration deeply rooted in tradition and shared interesting stories about kites and introduced relevant vocabulary to enhance participants' understanding.

To foster hands-on engagement, the CLE provided a selection of traditional kite styles, including swallow, eagle, goldfish, and carp. Attendees had the chance to choose their preferred kite and add their personal touch by painting them with vibrant colors.

The event aimed to encourage cultural appreciation and Chinese language learning, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Through painting kites, participants not only gained insights into Chinese traditions but also embraced their own creativity, fostering connections and friendships along the way.

"Paint Kites & Learn Chinese" exemplified the power of cultural exchange, reminding us of the value in appreciating diverse traditions. The event served as a platform for Chinese language learning and artistic expression, allowing participants to broaden their horizons and embrace the richness of Chinese cultures. By engaging with Chinese culture and exploring their artistic abilities, attendees discovered new perspectives and celebrated the joy of cross-cultural connections. The event highlighted the transformative potential of language and cultural understanding, fostering a sense of unity and appreciation for the diverse world we live in.
