SUSTech Students Won the Special Prize and the First Prize in the National English Competition for College Students

The 2023 National English Competition for College Students Final Contest was held on June 3, 2023. SUSTech students XU Yemeng and XIAO Qiwen won the national special prize, and CHEN Siyuan won the national first prize.

The National English Competition for College Students (NECCS) is jointly sponsored by the Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in China and the College English Teaching and Research Association of China. It is one of the most large-scale and competitive national contest of college students' comprehensive English proficiency. Since its inception in 1999, the competition has been held for 24 consecutive sessions. Every year, more than 1.2 million college students from over 1,200 colleges and universities across the country participate in this competition.

The NECCS is enthusiastically received and actively participated in by SUSTech students. A total of 505 students signed up for the competition. On May 7, 2023, the Center for Language Education (CLE) organized the preliminary contest on campus. 15 students from our school won the national second prize, and 25 students won the national third prize for the preliminary level. In addition, 3 students were selected and led by the CLE teachers to participate in the national final contest in Guangdong division. Through fierce competition with more than 40 colleges and universities in Guangdong Province, SUSTech contestants performed excellently and won two national special prizes and one national first prize. The outstanding performance of SUSTech students in this national English competition fully reflects the achievement of our featured English education system and personalized training. Promoting learning through competition is an important dimension of English learning outside the classroom in our English education system. The CLE has been actively promoting and guiding English competitions, carrying out relevant workshops and personalized tutoring, to facilitate continuous improvement of SUSTech students’ English Proficiency by providing more opportunities and resources. We will continue to hold various English competitions, share relevant learning opportunities, and provide SUSTech members with chances to showcase themselves. We hope that SUSTech members will continue to accomplish excellent results in the field of English learning in the future!
