SUSTech Students Won the Grand Award in the National English Competition for College Students

The 2024 National English Competition for College Students Final Contest was held on May 19th, 2024. SUSTech students WANG Minjun and XIAO Qiwen achieved outstanding results, ranking first and third in the Guangdong Province division, and were delighted to receive the National Grand Award.

The National English Competition for College Students (NECCS) is jointly sponsored by the Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in China and the College English Teaching and Research Association of China. It is one of the most large-scale and competitive national contest of college students' comprehensive English proficiency. Since its establishment in 1999, it has been held for 25 consecutive yours, with over 1.2 million students from more than 1,200 universities nationwide participating annually. In 2024, there were over 36,000 contestants in NECCS Guangdong division.

Since SUSTech started to hold the NECCS in 2023, students have shown enthusiasm and active participation in the contest. A total of 382 students registered for the competition. On April 21st, 2023, the Center for Language Education (CLE) organized the preliminary contest on campus. 2 students were selected and supervised by the CLE teachers to participate in the national final contest in Guangdong division. Through fierce competition with almost 40 colleges and universities in Guangdong Province, SUSTech contestants performed exceptionally, obtaining the first and third highest score respectively, and winning the National Grand Award.  In addition, 11 students won the National Second Prize, 19 students won the National Third Prize, and 39 students won the SUSTech English Proficiency Contest Excellent Award. Congratulations to all the winners!

The outstanding performance of SUSTech students in this national English competition fully reflects the achievement of our featured English education system and personalized training. Promoting learning through competition is an important dimension of English learning outside the classroom in our English education system. The CLE has been actively promoting and guiding English competitions, carrying out relevant workshops and personalized tutoring, to facilitate continuous improvement of SUSTech students’ English Proficiency by providing more opportunities and resources. With outstanding English abilities and well-rounded development, our students continue to achieve good results in English competitions. The CLE will continue to hold various English competitions, share learning opportunities, and provide SUSTech members with chances to showcase themselves. We hope that SUSTech members will continue to accomplish excellent results in the field of English learning. We also look forward to SUSTech members’ support and active participation in English competitions.
