On March 1, 2024, the Center for Language Education (CLE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) successfully organized the 3rd Global Language Day, a vibrant celebration of linguistic diversity and global connections. Under the theme of “The World is at SUSTech: Embracing Global Connection and Celebrating Diversity at SUSTech,” the event brought together students, faculty members, and staff to showcase the rich array of languages spoken in the SUSTech community.

As SUSTech continues to expand its global influence, the Global Language Day serves as a platform to highlight the University’s commitment to diversity, openness, and cultural exchange. At this year’s event, 22 languages were represented by 68 language volunteers from different corners of the SUSTech community.

Despite the chilly weather, over a thousand enthusiastic participants came together to immerse themselves in the joy of learning and experiencing different languages and cultures. The highlight of the event was the challenge to learn how to say “The World is at SUSTech” in all 22 featured languages. Those who completed this linguistic challenge were rewarded with a special prize, adding an element of friendly competition to the festivities.

The Global Language Day has become an integral part of the University’s cultural fabric. It not only celebrates the linguistic diversity at SUSTech, but also fosters an environment of understanding and appreciation for different cultures. By embracing global connections, a more inclusive and vibrant academic community is being built at SUSTech.
