On March 11th, 2023, the Final of the First BME English Public Speaking Contest was successfully held. Nine finalists who spoke with heart and mind shone at the Final of the First BME English Public Speaking Contest. This year's theme was Health and Society. The finalists' topics ranged from “Mental Health in the Post-pandemic Era” to “Health is No Longer Your Own Business”.

Anthony Rendon, Samuel Whitaker, and Conrad Herrara from the CLE were invited to be the judges for the final. They were all very impressed by the speakers' performance.

"Students' confidence was evident in their speeches, and each expressed themselves clearly and passionately." Said Anthony.

Dr. Yuan Li, the Director of the Center for Language Education, was invited to give a speech at the beginning of the contest. "The purpose of the contest is not only to showcase our English, but more important to share and influence us with what you think meaningful and significant.”  Dr. Li said. She also expressed CLE’s enthusiasm to work more closely with the Department of Biomedical Engineering to provide more opportunities for students to actively improve their English.

The Center for Education is dedicated to providing more opportunities for students to practice their language skills and gain confidence. It will keep working with different departments to make it happen.
