The CLE Conference on Teaching and Learning is an annual gathering that brings together educators and researchers from a variety of fields to share ideas, experiences, and best practices in teaching and learning. The conference is designed to enhance English language education and promote teaching excellence by exploring innovative and practical teaching methods.
The CLE Conference has been held every year since its inception in 2019, under a specific theme that addresses current issues and challenges in education. The first conference focused on exploring old, new, and creative teaching and learning methods, while the second conference centered on sharing successful teaching practices. The third conference shifted its focus to the future of education in a post-COVID-19 world and explored ways to reimagine and adapt to the new normal in education. The fourth conference aimed to inspire and motivate educators to work towards a shared future where everyone is empowered to contribute to a better world.
The conference is open to CLE teachers, SUSTech faculty interested in teaching in English, and English language teachers outside SUSTech. It provides a platform for participants to learn from experienced educators and scholars, share their own experiences, and network with peers from around the world. With a focus on practical and innovative approaches to teaching, the CLE Conference on Teaching and Learning provides a valuable opportunity for participants to enhance their teaching skills and promote excellence in English language education.

Prof Pascual Pérez-Paredes
Building critical literacies in post-digital language classrooms
Abstract
This talk argues for a reorientation of educational priorities: from technocentric training in Artificial intelligence (AI) tool usage to fostering the capacity to interrogate the sociotechnical systems that shape our digital realities. Drawing on recent research with higher education students in Europe, I will explore how learners interact with generative AI, what assumptions they hold about its authority, and how it influences their academic practices. The talk will examine how large language models challenge traditional notions of authorship, academic originality, and teacher agency. It will also discuss how digital literacies have evolved from functional ICT skills to encompass ethics and participation in algorithmic cultures. The talk advocates for a pedagogy that not only integrates AI but critically questions it.
